Over the years, several dedicated, hard-working interns have played an integral role at planit inc. as they gain experience ahead of entering the workforce full time. These Event Assistants are often the central backbone to vital tasks behind the scenes, in addition to working side-by-side with our event producers to execute seamless meetings and events.

National Intern Day is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating these emerging leaders of the event planning world. However, we feel every day is a good day to celebrate their current and future success!

Many of our planit inc. interns have gone on to do amazing things with incredible careers. While they are here to learn from us during their internship, often, we learn from them, too.

As we celebrate planit inc.’s remarkable interns, we wanted to introduce you to our summer and fall Event Assistants, Ella and Catherine. Both are currently attending Creighton University in Omaha, working toward earning their undergraduate degrees. Ella, a junior from Castle Pines, Colorado, is a double major at Creighton in English and journalism. Catherine, a Creighton senior from Eudora, Kansas, is majoring in journalism and public relations with a minor in political science.

Ella and Catherine highlighted some of the reasons why they chose to intern at planit inc., what they have learned, what has surprised them so far and more!

Why did you choose planit inc. for your internship?

Ella: I found the experiences with this opportunity could set me up for my future career. Additionally, it was extremely important to me that I felt like my internship was a space where I could truly learn and feel like I was being cared for. That was clearly the case in my first interview with planit inc.!

Catherine: I wanted to work in an area that I had never explored deeply before. I’ve helped plan different events growing up and somewhat in college, but I wanted to learn more about the event planning industry. planit inc. stood out to me from the get-go, and it’s been an incredible experience working alongside and learning from some of the most talented and driven women in the industry!

What intrigues you the most about the event industry?

Ella: I am most intrigued by the inner workings of what it takes to make an event work. It is one thing to throw together a backyard BBQ, but there is so much more to planning the types of events that planit inc. does. It becomes a lot more intricate when you involve vendors and venues, and the process is so interesting.

Catherine: One of the biggest things that intrigues me about the event industry is the role of communication. Even though I’ve only been with planit inc. for a short time, I see how important team communication is when it comes to the coordination of event planning and when on-site for day-of duties and such.

What is one of the “WOW” moments you have experienced during an event with planit inc.?

Ella: I went to the Union Pacific Home Plate event at the beginning of the NCAA Men’s College World Series. Watching the train come in and learning about the rich history of the train’s rides and occupants, I realized that this experience was one-of-a-kind.

Catherine: I was lucky enough to help at one of our events held at the Harper Event Center at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. While I was brand new to what type of event it was and the client, it was neat to work with her on-site and essentially see everything that she had planned come to fruition. From setup to teardown, it was eye-opening to watch the entire process of planning and execution in real-time.

If you could choose any location for a planit inc. event, where would you go?

Ella: If I could pick any location for a planit inc. event, it would be in the Pacific Northwest. It is so beautiful there, and I feel like a lot of interesting stuff goes on.

Catherine: I think I would choose London. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some different areas of the world, but I haven’t been to London yet! I’m not sure what type of event would be best suited for England, but I feel like it would be such a fun and beautiful place to explore and find the best venue or specific space for whatever type of event we would be planning!

After completing their internships with planit inc., Ella and Catherine will be armed with new connections, skills and experiences. They each plan to continue their studies at Creighton and enter the workforce in the communication/journalism field upon graduation.
